Getting Into Playtime Casino Hanover

The door rule at Playtime Casino Hanover is short, but a weekend group often has one friend it catches. Type the ages of the group into the check below, and each person gets a tag with what to carry.

The rule

Nineteen, with photo ID

Everyone in the car has to be 19 or over and hold valid photo identification from a government before going in. Guests aged 21 or younger need a second piece of ID as well, one that shows their name. The casino's rule rests on Ontario law, which bars anyone under 19 from a casino.

So the count works out by age. A 20-year-old friend from Listowel needs two pieces: the photo ID and a second piece with a name. Anyone older than 21 needs one. Lottery tickets alone are sold from 18, but that age does not open the casino door.

Also for the trip: an ATM inside the casino, U.S. dollars exchanged at the cashier's cage, and anyone self-excluded from an Ontario gaming property may not enter.

    Cash

    Cash, cards and currency

The casino has one ATM inside and another in the raceway grandstand. A friend with U.S. bills can change them at the cashier's cage. In the simulcast area at the back of the casino, horse-racing bets cannot be made in U.S. dollars.

Here the loyalty card goes by the name My Club Rewards, and it costs a guest nothing. The Guest Services desk signs guests up once they show valid ID. The card is optional: entry at the door depends on age and ID, not on the card.

    Barred

    Who may not visit

No visit is possible for anyone under a trespass notice or a self-exclusion, be it here or at another gaming property in Ontario. A ban at another Ontario property counts here too. My PlayBreak is OLG's casino self-exclusion. Ontario casinos can be closed to a person for 3 months, for 6 months, or for any span between 1 and 5 years.

A casino break applies to all Ontario casinos and cannot be cut short. Enrolment works three ways: a call to 1-800-387-0098 for the OLG Support Centre, a word with the floor staff, or a visit to a PlaySmart Centre.

    Access

    Access needs on the visit

The casino describes the building as accessible. Ask, and the casino will supply wheelchairs, communication supports and accessible formats. A friend who needs any of these can phone 519-364-7606 ahead of the drive from Walkerton or Kitchener. The same number handles questions about holiday hours, which are not published.

    Questions

    Short answers

Can our 18-year-old friend come in with us?

No, entry starts at 19. Under Ontario law, no one younger than 19 may be in a casino. Lottery tickets alone are sold from 18, and that age stops there.

Our friend turned 21: what goes in their wallet?

Valid photo identification from a government, plus another document with their name on it. Every guest 21 or younger needs that second piece.

Does an ID shown as a picture on a phone count?

The rule at the door asks for valid government-issued photo ID. Plan on carrying that ID itself, and call 519-364-7606 with any question.

We have some U.S. cash left: can it be spent there?

The cashier's cage will exchange U.S. currency. In the simulcast area, horse-racing bets are not accepted in U.S. dollars. One ATM is inside the casino, and a second is in the raceway grandstand.
